Poured earth concrete

Why It Looks & Feels Better

People react to surfaces. PEC delivers:

  • Earthy colour from your own soil — no blinding grey.
  • Lower glare in the South Indian sun — easier on eyes, cameras and kids.
  • More comfortable feel underfoot; users notice it.
  • Design flexibility for curves, courts, shared walk‑drive zones without cutting thousands of blocks.

Where Poured Earth Concrete Fits

Use PEC for:

  • School & college campus loops
  • Gated community streets
  • Resort & retreat drives
  • Institutional campuses
  • Farm & estate approach roads

Have heavier traffic? Call us and we’ll advise the right section. For most light internal roads, PEC is the smarter choice.

Poured Earth Concrete (PEC) Road: Low-Carbon, High-Value Surface for Light-Vehicle Campuses

What is PEC (soil-cement), in one line

PEC is simply in-situ soil blended with measured cement, aggregate & water, to form a durable pavement layer—an established technique in “soil-cement” construction.

secement.org  American Cement Association

Our project scope & mix

  • Footprint: 90 m × 5 m × 0.15 m (67.5 m³ total).
  • PEC mix: 5 (jelly) : 3 (earth) : 2 (M-sand) : 1 (cement) → cement is 1/11th of volume.
  • Comparators: (i) M25 RCC slab with 80 kg steel/m³ (lightly loaded pavements), (ii) 4″ paver blocks with 10% bedding mortar.

Fact-checked embodied-impact factors used

  • Cement: ~0.93 t CO₂/t cement; ~4.7 MJ/kg embodied energy.
  • Rebar: ~1.9 t CO₂/t; ~20 MJ/kg embodied energy.
These are consistent with widely used databases and guidance (ICE database; RICS WLCA 2023 noting ICE usage; independent industry summaries). greenbuildingencyclopaedia.ukGlobal ABCRICS
(Context: Cement typically dominates concrete’s embodied carbon—up to ~90% of A1–A3—so cutting cement is the main lever.) Institution of Structural Engineers

Table A — Comparative Costing (Materials-Only: Cement & Steel)

(Prices you approved: cement ₹360/50 kg; steel ₹60/kg. No jelly/M-sand/labour/plant.)

Option Cement (t) Steel (t) Cement Cost (₹) Steel Cost (₹) Total (₹)
PEC (baseline) 8.84 0.00 ₹63,626 ₹0 ₹63,626
M25 RCC slab 24.30 5.40 ₹174,960 ₹324,000 ₹498,960
Pavers (cement only) 17.78 0.00 ₹128,016 ₹0 ₹128,016
  • Paver system (supply & install): Area 450 m² = 4,843.76 sqft, at ₹100/sqft → ₹484,376 (separate from the materials-only table above). (Road area and paver totals per your workings.)
Key read: Switching from M25 RCC to PEC avoids ~₹4.35 L in materials-only spend on this stretch; vs pavers’ cement content, PEC avoids ~₹0.64 L.

Table B — Materials & Impact Saved (Choosing PEC as Baseline)

Metric (A1–A3) vs M25 RCC slab vs 4″ Pavers (+10% bedding)
Cement avoided 15.46 t (64%) 8.94 t (50%)
Steel avoided 5.40 t (100%) 0.00 t (—)
CO₂ avoided 24.64 t (75%) 8.33 t (50%)
Embodied energy avoided 180,686 MJ (81%) 42,026 MJ (50%)
All PEC/M25/paver quantities, CO₂ and MJ are from your step-by-step workings; steel rate 80 kg/m³ per your assumption.

Why this matters for earth-based, sustainable construction

  • Embodied-carbon leverage: Cement reduction is the single biggest driver of A1–A3 savings in concrete systems. PEC achieves this without introducing rebar (another high-impact material). Institution of Structural Engineers
  • Appropriate tech for campuses: PEC/soil-cement is a proven, compacted layer suited to low-volume and light-vehicle roads when properly designed and cured. txltap.org
  • Practicality & speed: Local soils, fewer imported materials, and simpler placing/compaction workflows can shorten programmes (site-dependent).

Methodology & notes (transparency)

  1. Baseline & scope: PEC is the baseline; same footprint for all options; subgrade/base costs excluded for PEC and M25 per your instruction.
  2. Prices used: Cement ₹360/50 kg; Steel ₹60/kg; Pavers ₹100/sqft.
  3. Impact factors: Cement 0.93 t CO₂/t, 4.7 MJ/kg; Rebar 1.9 t CO₂/t, 20 MJ/kg—aligned with commonly referenced datasets (e.g., ICE) and shown in your workings. greenbuildingencyclopaedia.ukRICS
  4. Units: t = metric tonnes; MJ = megajoules.
  5. Applicability: Figures reflect this site and these assumptions; actual results vary with soil, cement grade, QC, and curing.
